This blog documents the restoration of my 1859 Erard grand piano. A note to Erard restorers: I am seeking to correspond with other Erard restorers and owners to share information on these instruments. Please contact me if you wish to start an online discussion group.

Erard Piano Key Replacement
Ahh...finally the keys come to life with brand new plastic keytops from International Piano Supply. The old ivories I'll sell on Ebay. I broke a jack (part of the action) removing one of the keys. That's two broken jacks now. I'll have to fix that later, but it's something I need to learn how to do anyway.

Good Luck with your restoration. I'm looking forward to watching your progress!
This is not a restoration, its a modernisation or massacration, like unfortunately you Americans seem to like. Instead of taking out all the ivories, which are original to this piano !!! you should have replaced the broken ones with pieces of similar ivory !!! as with shellac --> it should be French polish, which leaves a far better shine on your piano, much more waaw effect. And I just started to read your blog. Lucky there are a lot of such pianos, imagine you ruining an Erard from the 1830´s !
